Isle of Wight Weekender: A Big Hit

Eight members of Phoenix-CTC have just enjoyed a weekend of cycling on the Isle of Wight (IOW). This was our first event on the island and it went better than we had expected. In fact it was a big hit with everyone.

The IOW is cycling friendly. There are a variety of cycle routes and we chose to cycle along part of the National Cycle Route 67 which was hilly in places but went along some peaceful country lanes. Also we cycled along the Regional Cycle Route 23 which is a 13 mile (approx) flat cycle route between Sandown and Cowes.

We stayed at a friendly hotel in Shanklin which met all our requirements admirably and we would certainly stay there again. A bonus for this event was the weather, dry and sunny with very little wind.

At the end of this Weekender it was suggested that we should do a week-long tour of the island next year and stay at Shanklin, Yarmouth and Cowes for two nights at each location. There was approval for the idea from everyone so is likely to be considered at our AGM in October.

Very good company and sitting outside for evening dinner on the seafront in short sleeves was rare in this country. Both nights too! We were fortunate to step into John and Eli’s places and sorry they missed out this time.
