Cycling from John O’Groats to Land’s End in 2016

A John O’Groats to Land’s End event (JOG-LE) is being considered for 2016 and will be based on the LE-JOG event the club ran in 2011. That event went well and, everyone who started LE-JOG, finished it. We hope the same would happen on JOG-LE.

Although challenging, JOG-LE shouldn’t prove arduous for experienced cyclists who are used to cycle touring. The route would be mostly the same as for LE-JOG albeit in reverse which was devised to avoid the worst of the hills between John O’Groats and Land’s End. Also, it includes some regional and national cycle routes and, where possible, keeps off main roads.

JOG-LE would take 15 days to cycle just over 1000 miles, without a rest day. The hotels should be two-star and include some Travelodges and Premier Inns. A van would be used to transport luggage between hotels but cyclists would have to make their own arrangements to get to John O’Groats and back from Land’s End.

The exact date isn’t known at this stage but is likely to be in the latter part of May, possibly finishing in early June.

It’s open to CTC members as well as those in Phoenix-CTC so if you’re interested in doing this event and would like more details then please contact us using the form on the Contact Us page of this website.

If we get sufficient interest by the end of 2014 then we’ll start some preparatory planning.
