Route Planning

Safety is paramount when planning our routes.

We avoid busy roads and, where practical, steep hills. Quiet country roads and well surfaced cycle paths are our preference. The target daily distance is 100 kms (62 miles) as we’ve found over the years that this suits most reasonably fit cyclists on touring bikes.

Routes are plotted on RideWithGPS and a virtual reconnoitre conducted using Streetview. This often leads to modifications before a route is finalised. A link to the plotted route is then sent to participants so that they have the opportunity to familiarise themselves with it before going on a trip. Also, for those with Garmin GPS bike computers, they can download the plotted routes onto those devices.

Route instructions are prepared and issued to cyclists well before the start of a cycling trip.
